RFID Software and Services News Summary – May 2009
IBM announced its WebSphere software products increased revenue 5% year-over-year for the first quarter. This compares to overall software down 6% and down 10% for services. Hardware revenue was down 23%.
RFID Global Solution announced Visi-Trac a real-time software platform that integrates and deploys visibility solutions from Ultra Wide Band, GPS, barcode, and temperature sensors. The platform is built upon Microsoft BizTalk, and has been deployed at five enterprise customers.
InSync announced its OnDemand iApp Builder, a Web 2.0 platform for building and deploying RFID, GPS and sensor-driven software applications. The iApp Builder enables users to configure processes such as check in/check out, shipping and receiving and RTLS location plotting without custom code or upfront software license expense.
Impinj announced a new service offering that is more early stage and technical centric, named “Fast Track.” The service includes helping end users understand the physical, performance and functional requirements in deploying an RFID system, including feasibility design. Key risks are identified and corresponding solutions that improve system capability, such as antenna design, can be employed.
We have noted recent industry layoffs and a corresponding increase in career service offerings, including RFIDJobing.com. The company’s offering includes matching RFID-skilled individuals with projects and positions requiring RFID expertise. They are focused on the RFID-specific requirements of system integrators, manufacturers, consultants and business users.
